Are Your Poker Chips Safe?
I read recently that poker chips might contain lead. After reading that, I did two things. First, I ran to the restroom to wash my hands. Then, I logged into the Internet to research this information, to see if it was true or not.
Sadly, it seems that it is, at least in some places. According to some new legislation filed in California, there was lead in them there poker chips, and from here on out all California poker chips will be lead-free.
This reminded me of the whole trans fats debate from 2007. Trans fats were deemed to be cancer causing fats, and were present in basically anything you ate that was unhealthy. Surprise! Thing is, trans fats have been around forever, and we only just started banning them last year. Great! What about the 20 or years I’ve been eating things before that? Thanks for telling me after I pumped my body full of toxins all those years!
Same with poker chips. Apparently players have been stacking and doing tricks with deadly chips. That’s not going to happen anymore, but the damage has been done. Look for outbreaks of lead-related ailments in the Las Vegas area any day now.
