The Poker Player’s Alliance has been working diligently to speed up the legislation process for legalizing and regulating poker in the United States. After the recent Pitbull Poker, a member of the flash poker network, debacle, it’s high time that many American poker players stand up and demand that this legislation be brought to fruition.

However, one has to wonder what the new poker online world will look like once the US begins regulation. The two industry leaders Pokerstars and Full Tilt will most likely be faced with some heavy competition. No doubt Party Poker will return to the US, though the response could go either way depending on how the players react to the abandonment. Will they forgive the poker giant, or re-embrace them with open arms.

There has also been talk that Harrah’s will enter the online scene in a big way. What about some of the other sites that dominate in Europe such as the iPoker network and Everest, will they too want a part of the American market?

Finally, one has to ask, will the sites already operating in the US be able to get licensed under the new legislation. Some reports say that within the first 90 days of the bill’s inception, a grace period will be given for those already operating, but as the Senate and House go, it could change many times until this piece of law is in its final form.

In any event, with the new legislation will come benefits to the poker community as a whole. The poker economy will most likely open up since it will be more legal, if that’s possible, to play online, and those that are not playing merely because of the UIGEA of 2006, will also be likely to hop online and hit the virtual felt.

Many of the online Texas Holdem poker strategy guides spend most of their time talking about the good hands. They tell you in painstaking detail what to do with your Pocket Aces, your Ace-King suited, and your pocket Kings. The Poker Players’ Allicnace (PPA) has done some moving and shaking for the month of July. The week of July 19th through the 25th has been designated by the PPA as national online poker week, and boy do they have casino plans. According to press releases and their spokespersons, the PPA is planning on rallying it’s huge membership across the nation to send a message to American lawmakers that “We want to legally play poker.” National poker week events will be scheduled in Washington D.C. and across the country as the PPA’s way of making clear, that poker is important to the voters of the constituencies represented and it’s also “here to stay.” On the underground, there are also a lot of pro lobbying rallies going on to the D.C. congress, supported by former congressman D’Amato, PPA chairman and head spokesperson. One final thing, if you want to show your support, post the link on all the online poker blogs and forums to nationalpokerweek.com and have all the players you know, both online and live to sign the petition that will be presented to President Barack Obama. At the time of this writing, over 200k people have signed, and more are signing every day thanks to Full Tilt poker and Poker Stars, as they’re offering freerolls to players who have signed under their email addresses.

I met a guy at a local charity poker room outside smoking a cigarette. I asked him how many people would be in the tournament and he told me about the game. Though I made it to the final table of the tournament, I was one of the short stacks and had to gamble with a good ace for a 3.5x all-in raise. Unfortunately I was called by pocket jacks and I lost in 8th, before getting paid. Now I know, even though I will play this event again and again because the players are so terrible, the real equity is in the sit and go’s. It’s for less money, so I’m not personally risking as much, and it’s also probably viewed less seriously than the tournament, so the players are not concentrating as hard. I play sit and go’s all the time, but with weak opposition guaranteed, these are the sit and go’s to be playing.
